5 free Bolt prompts

Bolt builds web apps from prompts in your browser, with built-in hosting, an optional database, and one-click publishing. These prompts use its Plan Mode, project Knowledge, file targeting, version history, and publishing.

Copy the prompt, paste it into the tool's chat, and replace everything in [BRACKETS] with your own details.

1 Plan It Before Bolt Builds It

What it's for: Agreeing on an approach before Bolt writes any code, so you spend fewer tokens on rework.

When to use it: You're starting a new feature or app. Switch to Plan Mode, which discusses without changing your code.

I want to build [FEATURE OR APP]. Let's plan it before writing code.

Who it's for: [TARGET USER]
Must have: [3-5 FEATURES]
Not now: [THINGS TO SKIP]

Please suggest the screens, the data I'll need to store, and a build order of small steps. Ask me questions about anything unclear.

Tips: When you're happy with the plan, use the "Implement this plan" button to switch to Build Mode.

2 Write Project Knowledge

What it's for: Giving Bolt background instructions it follows automatically for this project.

When to use it: Bolt keeps forgetting your style, terms, or constraints. Paste the result into Project settings → Knowledge.

Write short project Knowledge for my Bolt app (under 200 words).

Goal: [APP IDEA]
Style: [DESIGN PREFERENCES]
Terms: [WORDS TO USE OR AVOID]
Constraints: [e.g. "don't add new libraries without asking", "keep the existing navigation"]

Tips: Bolt also supports account-level knowledge for preferences that apply to all your projects.

3 Change One Thing Without Touching the Rest

What it's for: Making a focused change while protecting files that already work.

When to use it: Bolt's edits keep spilling into parts of the app you didn't ask about. In Code view, right-click files to target them, or lock files you want left alone.

Change only [WHAT TO CHANGE] in [FILE OR COMPONENT].

Don't change: [FEATURES OR FILES THAT MUST STAY THE SAME]

After the change, tell me which files you edited and what I should click to check that nothing else broke.

Tips: Make one change per prompt. If something breaks, open Version History (the clock icon), preview an earlier version, and restore it. Restoring code doesn't roll back your database data.

4 Polish the Look

What it's for: Making a working but plain Bolt app look intentional.

When to use it: The app works but looks generic. Use Plan Mode first to agree on the changes.

My app works but looks generic. Suggest a visual refresh. Don't change any features.

Feel I want: [3 WORDS, e.g. "warm, friendly, simple"]

Please propose a color palette, a font pairing, spacing and corner-radius rules, and the 5 changes that would help most. Wait for my OK before building.

Tips: In Plan Mode, you can use the Select tool to highlight one element and discuss changes to just that part.

5 Publish and Check It's Ready

What it's for: A quick readiness check, then publishing your app.

When to use it: You're about to click Publish for the first time.

Before I publish, check my app for:
1. API keys or secrets in front-end code.
2. Database tables that any visitor could read or change.
3. Pages that break on a phone screen.
4. Test data or placeholder text left in.

List what you find, fix the serious items one at a time, then tell me I'm ready to publish.

Tips: Bolt hosting is the default. If you want to publish to Netlify instead, choose it in Domains & Hosting before your first publish. Custom domains need a paid plan.
